Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 1
Lord Krishna continued:
Dear Arjuna, I shall explain to you this ultimate secret and Gyan which is the knowledge of all that is manifest (to emerge from Brahma and be born in this world) and all that is unmanifest (to become one with Brahma and forever be liberated from this world of suffering).
श्रीभगवान् बोले —- तुझ दोष दृष्टि रहित भक्त्त के लिये इस परम गोपनीय विज्ञान सहित ज्ञान को पुन: भली भाँति कहूँगा, जिसको जानकर तू दुःख रूप संसार से मुक्त्त हो जायेगा ।। १ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 2
This Gyan is the most significant secret knowledge in the universe, O Arjuna. It is very pure and helpful to all beings. It produces direct and favourable results. This virtuous secret is easy to practice and is imperishable.
यह विज्ञान सहित ज्ञान सब विद्याओं का राजा, सब गोपनियों का राजा, अति पवित्र, अति उत्तम, प्रत्यक्ष फल वाला, धर्मयुक्त्त, साधन करने में बड़ा सुगम और अविनाशी है ।। २ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 3
Arjuna, those people who do not have faith in these principles and in this secret knowledge do not attain Me (the ultimate goal) and thus, move into a world if darkness and death.
हे परंतप ! इस उपर्युक्त्त धर्म में श्रद्बारहित पुरुष मुझको न प्राप्त होकर मृत्यु रूप संसार चक्र में भ्रमण करते रहते हैं ।। ३ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 4
I am present in all of the universe (on every world) in my unmanifest (unseen) form. All beings are contained in Me but I am not always contained in them.
मुझ निराकार परमात्मा से यह सब जगत् जल से बरफ सदृश परिपूर्ण है और सब भूत मेरे अन्तर्गत संकल्प के आधार स्थित हैं, किंतु वास्तव में मैं उनमें स्थित नहीं हूँ ।। ४ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 5
O Arjuna, you must also understand that all the beings in this universe are not within Me.
Behold the effects of My Yoga (spiritual power), though I sustain and create all beings, in reality, My Self dwells not in these beings.
वे सब भूत मुझ में स्थित नहीं हैं, किंतु मेरी ईश्वरीय योग शक्त्ति को देख कि भूतों का धारण-पोषण करने वाला और भूतों को उत्पन्न करने वाला भी मेरा आत्मा वास्तव में भूतों में स्थित नहीं है ।। ५ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 6
Arjuna, you must clearly understand that just as the vast wind moves in all directions in the sky, similarly all beings are placed in Me.
जैसे आकाश से उत्पन्न सर्वत्र विचरने वाला महान् वायु सदा आकाश में ही स्थित है, वैसे ही मेरे संकल्प द्वारा उत्पन्न होने से सम्पूर्ण भूत मुझ में स्थित हैं, ऐसा जान ।। ६ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 7
O Arjuna, all beings realize and attain My true nature at the end of Brahma’s Day knows as Kalpa.
I, the Supreme Being, create them again at the beginning of every Kalpa.
हे अर्जुन ! कल्पों के अन्त में सब भूत मेरी प्रकृति को प्राप्त होते हैं अर्थात् प्रकृति में लीन होते हैं और कल्पों के आदि में उनको मैं फिर रचता हूँ ।। ७ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 8
O Arjuna, I create all beings again and again according to their karma (performed actions in their past life) out of My Maya (spiritually powerful nature).
अपनी प्रकृति को अङीग्कार करके स्वभाव के बल से परतन्त्र हुए इस सम्पूर्ण भूत समुदाय को बार-बार उनके कर्मों के अनुसार रचता हूँ ।। ८ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 9
Dear Arjuna, Karma has no affect on Me whatsoever.
I am unattached and indifferent to Karma. I have no bondage to Karma at all.
हे अर्जुन ! उन कर्मों में आसक्त्तिरहित और उदासीन के सदृश* स्थित मुझ परमात्मा को वे कर्म नहीं बांधते ।। ९ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 10
Dear Arjuna, under My supervision, it is through My Maya (nature) that the universe is created with all animate and inanimate (living and non-living) beings.
It is because of this fact that the whole universe revolves around the cycle of birth and death.
हे अर्जुन ! मुझ अधिष्ठाता के प्रकाश से प्रकृति चराचर सहित सर्व जगत् को रचती है और इस हेतु से ही संसार चक्र घूम रहा है ।। १० ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 11
Not knowing and fully understanding My Supreme Nature, all ignorant and unspiritual people in this world regard Me as insignificant when I am in human form. They fail to see and realize that I am the Lord of all beings.
मेरे परम भाव को न जानने वाले मूढ लोग मनुष्य का शरीर धारण करने वाले मुझ सम्पुर्ण भुतो के महान् ईश्वर को तुच्छ समझते है अर्थात अपनी योग माया से उद्भार के लिये मनुष्य रुप मे विचरते हुए मुझ परमेश्वर को साधारण मनुष्य मानते है ॥११॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 12
The Lord spoke onward:
These ignorant people with futile hopes, vain actions (Karma), and false knowledge (spiritual and non-spiritual Gyan) have a misleading and evil nature.
वे व्यर्थ आशा, व्यर्थ कर्म और व्यर्थ ज्ञान वालॆ विक्षिप्त चित्त अज्ञानीजन राक्षसी, आसुरी और मोहिनी प्रक्रति को ही धारण किये रहते है ॥१२॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 13
But, Arjuna, always heed that all saints, Yogis and wise men, with their godly, spiritual nature,regard Me as the prime cause of all beings (the Creator of the world) and indestructible.
They worship Me with one-mindedness, never letting their minds go astray and be affected by worldly objects, attachment to Karma, and false Gyan.
परन्तु हे कुन्ती पुत्र !देवी प्रक्रति के आश्रित महात्त्मा जन मुझको सब भुतो का सनातन कारण और नाशरहित अक्षर स्वरुप जान कर अनन्य मन से युक्त होकर निरन्तर भजते है ॥१३॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 14
True devotees of mine, O Arjuna, always have a firm belief in Me, constantly chant My name, bowing before Me, are always absorbed in My thought and worship Me with true love and devotion.
वे द्रढ निश्च्य वाले भक्क्त जन निरन्तर मेरे नाम और गुणो का कीर्तन करते हुए तथा मेरी प्राप्ति के लिये यत्न्न करते हुए और मुझको बार-बार प्रणाम करते हुए सदा मेरे ध्यान मे युक्त होकर अनन्य प्रेम से मेरी उपासना करते है ॥१४॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 15
Several people worship Me in different ways, My dear friend. Some choose to worship Me with their offering of knowledge (Gyan Yagya); others worship Me in my absolute (formless) form as part of their own self; and still others choose to worship Me as their Divine Master, in My several different and diverse forms.
However, Arjuna, realize that I am One and Universal even though I take on several forms.
दूसरे ज्ञान योगी मुझ निर्गुण-निराकार ब्रह्रा का ज्ञान यज्ञ के द्वारा अभिन्नभाव से पूजन करते हुए भी मेरी उपासना करते है और दूसरे मनुष्य बहुत प्रकार से स्थित मुझ विराट् स्वरुप परमेश्वर का पृथक् भाव से उपासना करते है ॥१५॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 16
Arjuna, you must understand that I am everything in this world.
I am the Vedic rituals; I am the sacrifice and the offerings (Yogya); I am the represent all herbal life
I am the Mantra (Vedic); I am purified butter; I am fire; I am the very act of offering in sacrifices.
ऋतु मै हूँ, यज्ञ मै हूँ, स्वधा मै हूँ, मन्त्र मै हूँ, धृत मै हूँ, अग्नि मै हूँ, और हवन रूप किया भी मै ही हूँ ।।१६॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 17
I am the sustainer, the father,mother, and grandfather of the whole universe. I represent all that is knowable and worth knowing
I am the Supreme Purifier of all things in the Universe and I represent all of the Vedas in the Universe also, namely, Rig Veda, Yajur Veda and Sama Veda.
इस सम्पूर्ण जगत्त् का धाता अर्थात धारण करने वाला एव कर्मॊ के फल देने वाला, पिता, माता, पितामह, जानने योग्य, पवित्र ओंकार तथा ऋग्वेद, सामवेद, और यजुर्वेद भी मै ही हू ।।१७॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 18
O Dear Arjuna, I support and preserve all the creation in the universe; I am the Supreme Lord of all; the witness of all occurrences, the shelter; the refuge; the well-wisher of all beings; the absolute beginning and origin of things, and the absolute end termination of all things.
Furthermore, Arjuna, I am the resting place and storage place (refuge) into which all beings come together when the time of universal destruction is at hand.
Know Me also, as the one imperishable, indestructible seed from which all beings in the universe are cultivated.
प्राप्त होने योग्य परम धाम, भरण-पोषण करने वाला, सब का स्वामी, शुभाशुभ को देखने वाला, सबका वास स्थान, शरण लेने योग्य, प्रत्युपकार न चाहकर हित करने वाला, सबकी उत्पति प्रलय का हेतु, स्थिति का आधार, निधान और अविनाशी कारण भी मै ही हूँ ॥१८॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 19
O Arjuna, I am the giver of heat; I am responsible also, for the sending and holding back of rain for the nourishment of all life.
You must understand, My dear friend, that I am the very nectar (the juice) of life within all beings, and at the same time, I am the death of all beings. Arjuna, I am all that is real and unreal in this universe.
मै ही सुर्य रुप से तपता हूँ , वर्षा का आकर्षण करता हूँ , और उसे बरसाता हूँ । हे अर्जुन ! मै ही अमृत और मृत्त्यु हूँ और सत्त् असत्त् भी मै हूँ ॥१९॥
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 20
Those who perform actions (as described in the three Vedas), desiring fruit from these actions, and those who drink the juice of the pure Soma plant, are cleansed and purified of their past sins.
Those who desire heaven, (the Supreme Abode of the Lord known as Indralok) attain heaven and enjoy its divine pleasures by worshipping Me through the offering of sacrifices.
Thus, by performing good action (Karma) as outlined by the three Vedas, one will always undoubtedly receive a place in heaven where they will enjoy all of the divine pleasure that are enjoyed by the Deities.
तीनो वेदो मे विधान किये हुए सकाम कर्मो को करने वाले, सोम रस को पीने वाले, पाप रहित पुरुष* मुझको यज्ञो के द्वारा पूज कर स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति चाहते है, वे पुरुष अपने पुण्यो के फल रुप स्वर्ग लोक को प्राप्त होकर स्वर्ग मे दिव्य देवताओ के भोगो को भोगत।।२०।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 21
However, Arjuna, after all of their good Karma (action) has expired, the enjoyment of all of the happiness, joy and peace that they have encountered in heaven ends as well, and therefore, they are reborn in the world (subject to the cycle of birth and death) once more.
Therefore, Arjuna, all beings who perform attached Karma (actions performed for the purpose of gaining something, i.e. fruits, in return for the action), are always born and reborn into this cycle of birth and death according to the three Vedas.
वे उस विशाल स्वर्ग लोक को भोग कर पुण्य क्षीण होने पर मृत्यु लोक को प्राप्त होते है । इस प्रकार स्वर्ग के साधन रुप तीनो वेदो मे कहे हुए सकाम कर्म का आश्रय लेने वाले और भोगो की कामना वाले पुरुष बार-बार आवागमन को प्राप्त होते है अर्थात् पुण्य के प्रभाव से स्वर्ग मे जाते है और पुण्य क्षीण होने पर मृत्यु लोक मे आते है ।। २१ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 22
However, Arjuna, for those beings who worship Me with a fixed mind, meditating and constantly thinking of Me, worshipping Me without any desire for rewards in return for their worship, are granted full refuge and salvation in My Supreme Abode (Heaven). These devotees are never reborn in this cycles of birth and death and attain a place in My Abode for Eternity.
जो अनन्य प्रेमी भक्क्त जन मुझ परमेश्वर को निरन्तर चिन्तन करते हुए निष्काम भाव से भजते है, उन नित्य- निरन्तर मेरा चिन्तन करने वाले पुरुषो का योग क्षेम मै स्वयं प्राप्त कर देता हूँ ।। २२ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 23
Arjuna, all of those devotees of mine who perform Attached Karma and who have faith in the various Deities (who are all part of and representatives of Me in reality), actually worship Me. However, this worship is really being done out ignorance, (lack of proper knowledge about Me.)
हे अर्जुन ! यधपि श्रद्भा से युक्त्त जो सकाम भक्त्त दुसरे देवताओ को पूजते है, वे भी मुझको ही पूजते है, किन्तु उनका वह पुजन अविधि पूर्वक अर्थात्त् अज्ञान पूर्वक है ।। २३ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 24
Arjuna, I am the Supreme Lord and receiver of all sacred sacrifices. However, those devotees who worship Me for some sort of motive or reward, really do not knows Me, and therefore, they shall always fall in this cycle of birth and death.
क्य़ोकि सम्पूर्ण यज्ञो का भोक्ता और स्वामी भी मै ही हूँ, परन्तु वे मुझे परमेश्वर को तत्व से नही जानते, इसी से गिरते है अर्थात्त् पुनर्जन्म को प्राप्त होते है ।। २४ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 25
Arjuna, a person only gets what he worship for. Those who worship Deities, attain them. Those who worship ancestors, attain them. Those who worship the spirits, attain spirits, and of course, those who worship Me, will undoubtedly attain Me.
देवताओ को पूजने वाले देवताओ को प्राप्त होते है, पितरो को पूजने वाले पितरो को प्राप्त होते है,भुतो को पूजने वाले भुतो को प्राप्त होते है और मेरा पुजन करने वाले भक्त्त मुझको ही प्राप्त होते है । इसलिये मेरे भक्त्तो का पुनर्जन्म नही होता ।। २५ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 26
I accept with love, all of the offerings that My selfless devotees present to Me (devotedly) in the form of leaves, flowers, fruits and water.
जो कोई भक्त्त मेरे प्रेम से पत्र, पुष्प, फल, जल, आदि अर्पण करता है, उस शुद्भ बुद्भि निष्काम प्रेमी भक्त्त का प्रेम पुर्वक अर्पण किया हुआ वह पत्र-पुष्पादि मै सगुण रुप से प्रकट होकर प्रीति सहित खाता हूँ ।। २६ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 27
Arjuna, whatever you do, whatever your actions are, whatever you sacrifice and give, and whatever your religious and sacred parctices may be, offer all of these to Me, dear friend.
हे अर्जुन ! तू जो कर्म करता है, जो खाता है, जो हवन करता है, जो दान देता है और जो तप करता है, वह सब मेरे अर्पण कर ।। २७ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 28
With your mind religiously and devotedly established in Sannyaas Yoga (offering all of your actions to Me), and therefore being fully released from the bondages and ties to worldly pleasures which result from attachment to Karma (good and bad Karma), you shall ultimately, and definitely, attain Me.
इस प्रकार, जिसमे समस्त कर्म मुझ भगवान के अर्पण होते है —-ऎसे सन्यास योग से युक्त्त चित्त वाला तू शुभाशुभ फल रुप कर्म बन्धन से मुक्त्त हो जायगा और उनसे मुक्त्त होकर मुझको ही प्राप्त होगा ।। २८ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 29
I regard all beings with equality and with even-mindedness. I neither hate nor love anybody, nor do I like or dislike anyone. However, those who choose to worship Me, with everlasting and pure devotion, are always in Me, and I am in them.
मै सब भूतो मे सम भाव से व्यापक हूँ, न कोई मेरा अप्रिय है और न प्रिय है; परन्तु जो भक्त्त मुझको प्रेम से भजते है, वे मुझ मे है और मै भी उनमे प्रत्यक्ष प्रकट हूँ ।। २९ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 30
O Arjuna, you must realize that even if the most evil of men become My devotee and worship Me with a steady and even mind, fully focusing his thoughts and concentrating on Me, he should be considered a saint and a wise man because he is a man of steady wisdom and intelligence since he possesses a decisive mind.
यदि कोई अतिशय दुराचारी भी अनन्य भाव से मेरा भक्त्त होकर मुझको भजता है तो साधु ही मानने योग्य है; क्योकि वह यथार्थ निश्चय वाला है । अर्थात्त् उसने भली भांति निश्चय कर लिया है कि परमेश्वर भजन के समान अन्य कुछ भी नही है ।। ३० ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 31
This evil man will then soon become a very pure and pious man in time. He will then attain eternal peace and happiness, Realize this truth O Arjuna, that he who is My true devotees, shall never suffer destruction.
वह शीघ्र ही धर्मात्मा हो जाता है और सदा रहने वाली परम शान्ति को प्राप्त होता है । हे अर्जुन ! तू निश्च्य पूर्वक सच जान कि मेरा भक्त्त नष्ट नही होता ।। ३१ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 32
Dear Arjuna, by taking refuge in Me, (the true path to bliss and joy), a sinful person, a women, a businessman, and even an untouchable person, will attain, the Supreme state just as the virtuous Brahman, and the devoted great royal sages and wise men.
हे अर्जुन ! स्त्री, वैश्य, शूद्र तथा पाप योनि— चाण्डालादि जो कोई भी हो, मेरे शरण होकर परम गति को ही प्राप्त होते है ।। ३२ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 33
O Arjuna, this world is one that is quickly passing, very brief and full of sufferings. Having been born here in such a world, the only way that one can attain true happiness and peace is to worship Me.
फिर इसमे कहना ही क्या है, जो पुण्य शील ब्राह्मण तथा राजषि भक्त्त जन मेरी शरण होकर परम गति को प्राप्त होते है । इसलिये तू सुखरहित और क्षणभंगुर इस मनुष्य शरीर को प्राप्त होकर निरन्तर मेरा ही भजन कर ।। ३३ ।।
Chapter – 9 – Shloka – 34
Arjuna, fix your mind only on Me; be my true, dedicated and sincere devotee; offer all sacrifices to Me; bow to Me. Having these things with Me always in mind, you will come to Me inevitably.
मुझ मे मन वाला हो, मेरा भक्त्त बन, मेरा पूजन करने वाला हो, मुझको प्रणाम कर । इस प्रकार आत्मा को मुझ मे नियुक्त्त करके मेरे परायण होकर तू मुझको ही प्राप्त होगा ।। ३४ ।।
